Our 1% for the Planet Pledge: Why Giving Back Isn’t Optional Anymore

When I launched Field Trip, I didn’t set out to build a brand. I set out to build a platform—for curiosity, for conservation, for camping tips, and for all of us who would rather be outside.

But as Field Trip grows, so does its impact. And I don’t just mean pageviews or social shares. I mean the real impact we can have by deciding how our money moves through the world.

So, I made a decision: Field Trip is now a proud member of 1% for the Planet. That means we’re pledging 1% of our income—not profits, not leftovers—to vetted environmental nonprofits doing boots-on-the-ground work to protect the places we love.

Here’s the part that might surprise you: We don’t sell products. Not yet, anyway. This pledge isn’t coming from a merch store or affiliate links. It’s coming directly from the brand partnerships and sponsorships that help fund Field Trip’s storytelling and community work.

And to me, that makes it even more important.

Because if we’re earning income by talking about the outdoors, the very least we can do is help protect it. That 1% pledge is our way of making sure Field Trip’s growth is always tied to giving back. Not just when it’s easy. Not just when it’s trendy. Every time.

We joined 1% for the Planet because it creates accountability. Because the nonprofits on the receiving end of that money—like reforestation groups and local climate advocates—are doing the hard, unglamorous work that keeps this planet livable.

And because I want Field Trip to stand for something more than good advice and pretty pictures.

Joining 1% for the Planet isn’t a flex. It’s a floor. A minimum. A starting point for a more reciprocal relationship with the land, the air, the water, and the communities that keep them thriving.

If you’ve ever read an article, shared a post, subscribed to the newsletter, or supported one of our brand partners—you’re part of this too. You’re part of a ripple effect that reaches far beyond a screen and into the real world.

And, we’re just getting started.
