Field Trip Chaperones
Honestly, our team may be the last people you'd want to chaperone a field trip. Well, except if that field trip involves tent construction, campfire cooking, fireside stories, and lots and lots of boisterous laughter.
Oh, that's what you're looking for? Then, we've got you!

Meet Kayt,
our Founder, and the adventurous spirit behind Field Trip. With over 25 years of experience in marketing and communications, she decided to swap her corporate hustle for a life filled with passion and purpose. Now, she spends her days in meaningful, joyful work and exploring the great outdoors, cherishing quality time with loved ones, and embracing the joys of having adult children.
Unforgettable camping trip? A road trip with her husband from South Carolina to Colorado with a new camping spot each night. Won't leave home without? Her toenails painted. Best tip for new campers? Test run an outing in your own backyard. Bucket list camping spot? The Galapagos.
Say hello to Liam,
our co-founder. A special education administrator with 35+ years in the field, Liam enjoys the time flexibility that teaching offers, which leaves him with summers and school vacations to explore new places. He grew up with seven siblings and loved (nearly) every moment of family camping trips. He will still choose a tent over a fancy hotel room, especially with his wife by his side.
RV or tent? They both have benefits, but there's nothing like sleeping in the open air with the breeze rustling in the trees. It's tent camping for the win. Won't leave home without? A book or three to read and binoculars to bird watch. Best tip for new campers? Don't spend a lot of money on gear until you know what you really need. Borrow gear, read reviews, and invest in the basics. Bucket list camping spot? Banf, Alberta, Canada.

Shake paws with Beans,
our fun-loving Bark Ranger, who wants so badly to be able to speak human. She is toy-obsessed, loves to snuggle (sometimes annoyingly so), and cannot be left unattended in a kitchen. She is just learning camping etiquette and, luckily, has very patient pet parents.
Won't leave home without? A B-A-L-L (shhhh...if you say it out loud, you will be stuck playing for hours). Best tip for new campers? Bring your best buddy with you, even if they are ill-mannered. Favorite camping spot? Right under mom's feet.

Unforgettable camping trip? Camping in my backyard as a kid was my favorite. You could see all the stars, and we’d have s’mores by the fire. Bucket list camping spot? Bahia Honda State Park in Florida. Won’t leave home without?
My phone and reusable water bottle. For hiking and camping, I always have a well-stocked first aid kit for myself and my pup, Que. Favorite outdoor activity? Being in the sunshine and swimming. Woods, ocean, lake, or mountains? Ocean! I love the beach.

Unforgettable camping trip? Sleeping in a tent in my front yard--the best sleep of my life. Tip for new campers? Fellow homebodies: new things can be stressful. Start slow. Move your routine more and more outdoors: read on your porch, play fetch with your dog, dine al fresco. Won’t leave home without?
Sunscreen and a positive attitude. What’s better outdoors than indoors? Listening to a book in my headphones on a walk in the woods, especially a textbook for school. Moving around helps me stay focused.

Unforgettable camping trip? Last year, we took a month-long trip through Wyoming, Montana, Washington State, California, and back home to Colorado. Best trip ever (to date!) Every stop was special, but Glacier National Park completely stole my heart. Bucket list camping spot? A beach! I haven’t camped oceanside yet, but it’s definitely on my list and hopefully happening soon. Tent, RV, or other?
Both! Either way, we tend to choose boondocking and undeveloped sites over traditional campgrounds. What’s better outdoors than indoors? Eating. Meals outside slow everything down. Your senses are sharper, the food tastes better, and the company feels more meaningful. A PB&J never tastes better than when you’re soaking in views you earned from the hike to get there.

Our Compass
At Field Trip, we believe:

-
The Outdoors is for Everyone: Nature knows no boundaries. We commit to fostering inclusivity, welcoming all to explore and connect with the natural world.
-
Planet First: We prioritize sustainability and support brands that respect the Earth and its beings.
-
Adventure Heals: We celebrate the joy of discovery and the power of outdoor experiences to inspire, heal, and unite.
-
Action for the Future: We are dedicated to combating climate change through responsible practices and education.
Together, we guide our community toward a more inclusive, sustainable, and adventurous world.

Our Ethos
At Field Trip, integrity matters — not just out in the wild, but behind the scenes, too:

-
We use tools, not shortcuts: We're a (super) small team. Sometimes, we utilize AI to assist with research, organizing ideas, and crafting social media posts. But every article, caption, and newsletter gets shaped, written, and approved by a human.
-
We question sources, not just rely on search results: We fact-check what we publish and do our best to link to reputable studies, organizations, and experts. If we get something wrong, we’ll say so — and fix it fast.
-
We respect your time and your trust: We don’t greenwash. We don’t sell out. We don’t recommend things we wouldn’t use ourselves. Sponsored content is clearly marked, and our opinions are always our own. If you see a brand on our site, we’ve tested it and we recommend it.
-
We’re human — and proud of it: Our content is imperfect. It’s written with passion and a whole lot of care (and maybe a typo here and there). That’s part of the magic.
-
We Don’t Just Talk — We Act: We are members of 1% for the Planet and give at least 1% of our funds to environmental organizations.
